Accredited by CITB and endorsed by Build UK, this two-day course introduces Site Supervisors to their legal responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. The course is specifically designed for first line managers or those who have or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities.
This course can be delivered remotely, using instructor-led online learning or as classroom-based training. For the online-learning option, you will need access to a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, microphone and speaker, unfortunately you cannot complete the course on a tablet or phone.
The certificate is valid for 5 years. Delegates will then need to attend the 1 Day SSSTS Refresher course.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The SSSTS course is intended for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities. It provides supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It will highlight the requirement to promote health and safety in order to supervise effectively.
COURSE AIMS:
At the end of this SSSTS course, successful candidates will have an understanding of:
- The problems within the construction industry
- Explain how health and safety law is structured, and how it applies to supervisors
- Identify how the supervisory role fits in with the management structure in controlling site health and safety
- Carry out risk assessments and method statements
- Carry out effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
- Monitor site activities effective
- Understand the important of timely intervention when bad practices are identified
ASSESSEMENT:
Course assessment will consist of a multiple choice test of 30 questions. Delegates are required to achieve the pass rate of 80%. They will need to complete a toolbox talk, case study exercise and trainer review.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Delegates should hold or be able to hold the role of a supervisor. Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English in order to complete the course successfully.
LEARNER NUMBERS:
Online Learning – The minimum number of delegates per course is 2. The maximum number of delegates per course is 12.
Classroom Learning at Sword Training Centre – The minimum number of delegates per course is 4. The maximum number of delegates per course is 12.
These are stipulated by the awarding body and are not subject to appeal.

CITB – Construction Industry Training Board (Site Safety Plus)
